RE: Notice of operational changes

We are pleased to announce that Brookings Harbor Friends of Music (FOM) will be operating in association with the Partnership for Performing the Arts (PPA) through the end of calendar 2022. After this time, FOM as a nonprofit will dissolve, and all activities will be rolled over to PPA.

Q. Who is PPA and how will this benefit the Brookings Community?

A. The Partnership for the Performing Arts was established in Crescent City by Nick Rail, successful business man and former alumnus of Del Norte High School. Nick has been an avid supporter of music and performing arts for the students of Del Norte County. He has generously given to the school district in the form of brand new musical instruments for all students who needed them and is now leading a nonprofit to envision, build and operate a performing arts center in Crescent City.  His vision, similar to ours, is that a performing arts venue anywhere in the region should serve the greater community, including Brookings.  Combining our resources allows us to continue live concerts in Brookings, as well as realize the dream of having a dedicated performing arts venue in the future.  PPA is committed to honoring the legacy of Friends of Music. Through the new center and other future activities, they will ensure our hard work and contributions to the community are never forgotten.

Q. Will FOM still host live classical music concerts in Brookings?

A. Yes! Our current 2022/2023 season is all set and we’re working on booking the 2023/2024 season. The concerts performed during calendar 2022 will be under the banner of “Friends of Music in Association with the Partnership for the Performing Arts.” Concerts beginning in 2023 will be presented by PPA and are scheduled to take place at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Brookings.

Q. Will the price of tickets change?

A. We have no plans at this time to raise ticket prices. We believe everyone should be able to enjoy beautiful live classical music so we work hard to keep the ticket prices affordable for all. As in prior seasons, tickets will be available for purchase at the door, on our website, at Wrights Custom Framing in Brookings and now at Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City.

Q. Will there still be a scholarship program and concert?

A.  Absolutely! We’ll continue to work with Dr. Alexander Tutunov, Professor of Piano at Southern Oregon University, to select three promising young artists each year as our scholarship winners. The tradition of an annual live concert featuring the winners will continue. As always, the annual scholarship concert is free for all to attend.

Q. How will this impact my status as a member of Friends of Music?

A. After calendar year 2022, memberships will no longer be offered. Those on our current contact list, including current members, will be contacted via email to opt in or out of being on the new contact list for PPA concert notices and event announcements.

We are very excited about this opportunity to work with PPA to continue our mission of promoting music appreciation and enhancing the culture of the community through live classical music concerts and scholarship offerings. We thank you for your support. If there are any further questions, please email us at bhfriendsofmusic@gmail.com.
